How to Remove DNS Records in DirectAdmin

This guide walks you through the steps to delete DNS records from your hosting account using DirectAdmin. Follow the instructions carefully, as removing DNS records can affect the availability of your website, email, and other services.

Note: In DirectAdmin, a full stop at the end of a hostname record indicates the end of that record. For example, the record name ‘www’ is equivalent to ‘www.example.com.’

Before You Begin

  • Ensure you are logged in to your exHost client area.
  • Have the name and type of the DNS record you wish to delete ready.
  • Be aware that DNS changes may take up to 24–48 hours to fully propagate.

Steps to Delete a DNS Record in DirectAdmin

  1. Log in to your DirectAdmin account.

Navigate to your DirectAdmin login page and enter your username and password, then click

  1. Go to DNS Management.

From the Account Manager section on your dashboard, locate and click DNS Management.

  1. View your existing DNS records.

A page will load displaying all current DNS records associated with your domain.

  1. Select the record you wish to delete.

Scroll through the list to find the DNS record you want to remove. Tick the checkbox next to the relevant record.

  1. Click the Delete button.

Once the record is selected, click the Delete button that appears at the top of the list.

  1. Confirm the deletion.

A confirmation dialogue will appear asking: “Are you sure you want to delete selected DNS record?” Click Delete to confirm and permanently remove the record.

Helpful Tips

  • You can select multiple records at once by ticking more than one checkbox before clicking Delete.
  • If you are unsure which record to remove, contact our support team before making any changes.
  • Always double-check the record name and type before confirming deletion — this action cannot be undone.
